happy user5
I’m very happy I chose this model. It’s sturdy, easy and fun to use. We made 2 baches of waffles, and all of them came out absolutely perfect ( exept first waffle)!! Kids loved those big, brown waffles. I have no expirience in waffle backing, but I did it from the first try ! No spils if you pour the right amount of batter ( I used the included cup measure ). Don’t forget to spray some oil after you preheat the iron.
For the waffle mix I set 4 minutes, for the recepie 5.5 minutes. Easy to clean with wet paper towel. Those reminder beeps are so great, I can do something alse while its baking.
Me and my family are very pleased with this product !

updating june 7 . We still love our waffle maker. Works fine, waffles came out nice and crispy. Its a real treat for kids, guests and my husband :)

Yum. Waffles!5
We like waffles . This machine works like the ones at the hotel continental breakfast rooms. Pour in the batter, close, flip. In a couple of minutes you have a crispy brown waffle. French toast can be made way more fun in this as well. The fold-down handle makes it a little easier to store. I still wish it had removable plates, but they are cleanable.

If you’re a fan of Belgian waffles….5
The previous reviewer pretty much said it best. Many thanks to Waring and Amazon for saving me about $650, cuz I was about to break down and buy a restaurant waffle baker! As far as I’m concerned, this is the only [home-use] waffle maker in existence. I only wish that it was available sooner! I’ve gone through about 4 wafflers (I’m really not that fond of wasting my time and money) trying to find one that could make a restaurant-style Belgian waffle. Well, this is IT! You would have to spend *AT LEAST* another $400 to get anything remotely like it - and even then, you’d likely never be able to use it in the average home. My grandmother took one of the rejects - in fact, she just called to tell me what a horrible job it did! This unit makes 1-inch thick, deep-pocket, restaurant-style Belgian waffles - and it makes ‘em fast too! They even include a measuring cup so you can put in just the right amount of batter. And it looks pretty cool, as well. Anyway, do yourself and your Belgian waffle recipe a great service by buying this unit… this is the only *affordable* waffle maker that can do the job right!

The quick and painless way to make Belgian waffles5
The Waring Pro Belgian Waffle Maker will look familiar to most people who have stayed at a hotel that offers a complimentary continental breakfast. The waffle maker is usually located next to the toaster, with cups of batter nearby. Those continental breakfasts are a huge reason why I now own this waffle maker: my husband fell in love with the idea of owning one ourselves.

The operation is simple. Plug it in and wait for the iron to preheat. Brush or spray a little oil on the surface (first waffle only.) Pour batter on the nonstick grid, close the top, rotate the handle, and wait for the machine to beep when the waffle is done. Rotate the iron back to the original position, lift the lid, and remove the waffle. The whole cooking process takes about five minutes. The only real trick to operating this waffle maker is finding a good recipe. I didn’t bother trying Waring’s selections and instead found my favorite recipe online.

If you use a cooking spray instead of brushing on oil, make sure that you use the kind for grilling and high heat cooking. The original Pam leaves a sticky residue since it is not meant for such temperatures. A good, flavorless oil works best.

The whole thing cleans up in minutes, if not seconds. The nonstick grids release the waffles so cleanly that I never have to clean it. Too much batter poured onto the surface might require some exterior clean-up, but the removable metal pan underneath the waffle iron can be easily hand-washed. A temperature control allows you to control the darkness/crispness of your waffles. The manufacturer suggests a setting of 4; I found that I had to set it to 5 before I got an adequately crisp result. (This may have to do with the recipe I use as well as my personal preference for a crisp exterior.)

For recipes, I suggest that cooks use those that require stiff egg white folded into the batter for the classic Belgian waffle. These recipes usually only take ten minutes or so to whip up, and are not as time-consuming as those that require yeast.

All in all, I like this waffle maker. Now, if only my husband would make waffles at home as he does in hotels, instead of waiting for me to do it.

The “How To” for Excellent Waffles5
I can’t say enough about the quality of the Waring Pro. It makes excellent waffles. The construction is everything the engineer in me wants in a waffle iron. A drawback to this unit is that it takes up quite a bit of room. As was suggested in another review, we store our Waring on the counter top where it looks great.

We have now used the waffle maker for almost a year and find we have waffles for lunch often. My review is slightly changed to reflect more of what we have learned over the last several months.

My wife and I are not accomplished chefs so we struggled with recipes. Thus I want to comment on three things: seasoning the grids, recipes and cook time.

Regarding seasoning:
The directions indicate seasoning with cooking spray or oil; we initially preheated the Waring and then sprayed the grids with Mazola Canola/sunflower spray. We were never happy with the way that worked (we may have been too generous with the spray). My wife finally used a spatula and paper toweling and wiped between the grids. The waffles are coming out fine.

It is important to re-season the Waring which we do about every three months. We found out the hard way what happens when you don’t re-season; the waffle stuck to the grids and it wasn’t fun getting it out. The directions in the manual tell you what to do if a waffle sticks. It is worth reading.

Regarding recipes:
We tried about four recipes before my wife went to the library and found the following recipe in a newer Betty Crocker cookbook. This is the only recipe we use.

WAFFLES
PREP: 10 MINUTES (MAKES FOUR BELGIAN WAFFLES)

1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1-3/4 cups milk
1/2 cup cooking oil

1. In a medium mixing bowl stir together flour, baking powder, and salt. Make a well in the center of dry mixture; set aside.

2. In another mixing bowl, beat whole eggs slightly. Beat in milk and oil.

3. Add egg mixture all at once to dry mixture. Stir just till moistened (batter should be lumpy).

When mixing this batter, my wife followed the above instructions. For the oil she used Canola oil. Using a whisk proved to be a better way to mix the batter. The recipe says the batter will have some lumps. It did, but they were not there at the eating.

We preheated the Waring Pro using a 4-1/2 setting and did not use any oil or spray to re-season. I use the measuring cup that comes with the machine and fill it with batter 1/16″ over the fill line on the cup. I pour the batter in a circular motion about 3/4″ from the outer edge of the grids.

By accident, I found out that the amount of batter you put in the Waring is sensitive to where the temperature knob is set. The knob was inadvertently shifted to 6; I didn’t notice. I poured batter into the unit and it rose a whole lot! In the end no big deal but now I check the setting when I turn the unit on.

I can never get the whole base to fill when pouring in the batter so I gently move the handle back and forth so the batter can flow in one direction and then the other to fill all the grids. It takes me about 30 seconds to fill the grids, close the cover and turn the waffle iron over. I then bake the waffle an additional four minutes.

About cooking time:
I depend completely on the clock for the time to cook, 4-1/2 minutes total. The signal from the Waring Pro comes very early and even monitoring the steam from the batter is not adequate.

Using the above, you will have Belgian waffles with the looks and taste that will make you proud!

Extra Waffles:
When you have extra batter, bake the waffles, let them cool, wrap individually in aluminum foil and freeze. They keep for several weeks and reheat well.

Christmas Morning Waffles a Success!5
My husband opened his gift of a Waring Pro Flip Belgian Waffle Maker, and his eyes lit up. He has always enjoyed the waffles at the breakfast room of various hotels. We decided to have waffles for Christmas Morning as our family had all gathered for the gift opening. We were not disappointed one bit with the Waring Pro. It fed the 9 of us without hesitation. We experimented with the settings and decided on 5.5. PERFECTION! We used Krusteaz Buttermilk Pancake Mix. Next time we will add chopped nuts to the mix. It cleaned up easily and quickly;. It will definitely get a lot of use.

Breaks Easily1
I’ve purchased this machine three times and it has stopped working in the middle of making a batch of Waffles each time. It was used perhaps twice a month and I’ve only had it for less than a year on all three machines.

Not just waffles : FUN waffles5
Okay, it’s not just a waffle maker. It’s cool. It’s fun. Pour in the batter, close it and turn the handle, turning the whole waffle iron segment over. That’s all there is to it. In no time, you have a fresh, hot, perfect waffle.

Okay, don’t get carried away with the batter, or you have a mess. Too little, you get a partial waffle. But the included measure SHOULD help you understand the appropriate amount of batter. And it even comes with recipes!

The waffles are good sized and deep as well. Belgian Waffle Mix is best, though it makes a darned good regular waffle as well.

Clean up is easy, unless you get really carried away. Minor drips are caught by the (included) tray under the waffle iron. Usually a wipe with a damp cloth is all the cleanup necessary.

Fast, efficient and fun. What more can you ask of an appliance?

I love it!

AWESOME!!5
i use this a few times a week and have for 2 years now and we LOVE it it makes the best waffles! we put cake batter in it and then put ice cream or friut or both on them for dessert waffles and also make whole wheat belgium waffles too! its amazing!
it will overflow if you fill it too full but it does come with a measurer but i just learn and gauge as i pour.
again LOVE IT!

I know how to fix this maker when it stops working3
I have had this waffle maker for a little over a year so it is now out of warranty. It just stopped heating up last weekend. After some online research I found out what goes wrong. When I plug mine in the orange light turns on and you can hear the relay click but it does not get hot. If you are experiencing this problem and you are out of warranty please don’t throw out your waffle maker. It can be fixed and the part is only $1.50. The part you need is a thermal fuse and it can be found under the round stainless cover of the lower griddle. It is a 250v 240 degree celsius thermal fuse. It is covered by a white silicon tube. Apparently this thermal fuse overheats and blows and power no longer gets to the burners. I have replaced the fuse and my waffle maker works again. This is a really great product but they either have the wrong size fuse in the unit or it was defective. Mine blew when I made a batch of waffles, turned off the unit and then turned it back on to make a second batch. It never heated back up. I kept my temperature control at 3.5. I hope this helps all you waffltiers out there. Also, the golden waffle mix is the best and you need to buy an isi brand whip cream dispenser. You add two pints of heavy whipping cream and three table spoons of powdered sugar and have the best whip cream for those tasty waffles. If you have questions leave me a comment and I will check back.

Easy waffles!5
The Waring Pro Belgian Waffle Maker will look familiar to most people who have stayed at a hotel that offers a complimentary continental breakfast. The waffle maker is usually located next to the toaster, with cups of batter nearby. Those continental breakfasts are a huge reason why I now own this waffle maker: my husband fell in love with the idea of owning one ourselves. Note that this waffle maker is essentially the same as Waring Pro WMK300 Belgian Waffle Maker, Brushed Stainless. The only difference is a handle that folds down for easier storage — and even that may have changed since I bought my first 300 model. Everything else is the same. Although the product description calls this “stainless steel,” only the exterior of the waffle iron itself is stainless steel; the base is a gray plastic.

The operation is simple. Plug it in and wait for the iron to preheat. Brush or spray a little oil on the surface. Pour batter on the nonstick grid, close the top, rotate the handle, and wait for the machine to beep when the waffle is done. Rotate the iron back to the original position, lift the lid, and remove the waffle. The whole cooking process takes about five minutes. Amazing Waffles! Give this waffle maker a chance…5
After I ordered this waffle maker, I went back and reviewed all the advice previous purchasers gave about it. I was shocked by all the disappointment people had with it, but it made me even more curious about what it would be like. I have to say that even after only one use, I completely disagree with the bad reviews this waffle maker had received!

I understand that it would be frustrating if it dies after only a few months or even a year. We all desire for small appliances to last a long time. And since I just received it this week, I cannot speak to how it will fare for me, BUT, it’s performance and the pleasure of my family at breakfast this morning far outweighs my concerns about a short life span of this waffle maker.

It makes amazing !!! waffles. My mom always gave me the advice that before you start trying your own recipes, use the ones that come with the machine. So, I started out with the overnight waffle recipe from the manual. I made it last night and then added the eggs, vanilla, and baking soda this morning per the recipe. I followed the directions (which were wonderfully detailed) and made a batch of delicious waffles. I started with the setting on #4 as the manual recommended and actually preferred them a little darker (in between the 4 and 5). My husband was blown away by how light and airy the waffles were. We (my husband, mother, and I) all agreed that we have never had a lighter, airier waffle!

So, I am truly excited about this waffle maker. There are a few other reasons (besides the waffles themselves) why I love this waffle maker. #1: There is an audible beep when it is ready to be used and it beeps when the waffle is done. This is great for a mom like me (of 3 little ones) who is always on the go and not always within eyeshot of the waffle maker.
#2: There is an on/off switch. Every other waffle maker I’ve ever seen only turns on and off with the plug in of the cord.
#3: The cord neatly wraps around the inside of the bottom.
#4: The measuring cup is the perfect guide of how much to put in for each waffle.
#5: The nonstick grid works great. I sprayed it each time with cooking spray (and the directions note not to spray it until it is heated and ready for use). I used regular cooking spray from BJ’s. I didn’t need to pay for the expensive high heat spray and it still worked great. I noticed another reviewer preferred that and I’m sure it works great, but if you don’t have it, your regular spray will work fine.
#6: The removable tray that goes under the waffle maker makes clean up a snap!

I did carefully read and follow the directions which made it easy to use. Use the enclosed measuring cup (which is packed in the carboard around the waffle maker), pour in the batter, and then turn 180 degrees, and cook. At first, my batter oozed out along the edge. The main reason for that is that our kitchen is a tiny bit slanted. But, I think all houses are like that. So, make sure you pick the counter in your kitchen that is most level.

As for the cost versus the life of this appliance, I have one thought to share–For my family, it would cost $45 for us to go out to breakfast and have Belgian waffles in a restaurant. After only 2 breakfasts, this waffle maker will have paid for itself!

Happy Waffling!

Buying KitchenAid Professional 5 Plus Series

I received this mixer as a gift, and honestly, it is so great that I almost feel guilty I don’t use it every day. I have heard good things about the reliability of Kitchen Aid mixers, and this one is far more powerful than what I actually need it to do.

One especially great thing is the slow-start feature–I do a lot of cake batter and icings, and it’s nice to avoid getting flour all over the cabinets after each round of mixing. It mixes very thoroughly, although I was initially suspicious since the bowl doesn’t rotate. You do have to stop and scrape the bowl, as with any mixer.

The machine is also incredibly quiet–it makes less noise than the microwave does. I like the fact that the bowl and white attachments are dishwasher safe, too. It might seem trivial, but I also like the styling of the wider bowl that comes standard with this model, instead of the narrower one that comes with the Artisan.

At first I thought the bowl-lift thing might be uncomfortable to use, since I’m used to tilt-head stand mixers. The bowl has two tabs with holes that fit on either side of the mixer, plus a metal nub that rests in a slot at the back. Once those three points are secure, you rotate the lever to lift the bowl to mixing position, and it’s very stable.

I’ve only found two minor inconveniences with this machine. First, it’s pretty tall, so it won’t fit on the counter underneath my cabinets–I have to move it back and forth from another shelf to use it, and it’s heavy. Second, when you’re done mixing and lower the bowl, it’s hard to scrape all the stuff off the beater because you can’t get a good angle. So you have to detach the beater and let it fall into the bowl and when the bowl is off the mixer you can scrape everything out. Thinner stuff like cake batter wouldn’t be a problem, but for frosting or mashed potatoes, a lot of stuff is left on the beater. This is not a big deal–just a different thing to get used to after a tilt-head mixer.

I have the cobalt blue model, and I hesitated because I thought it might be too “loud,” but it’s beautiful and I’m so glad I got this one.

I’m not a professional baker, but I use my mixer frequently, and I’m delighted to have something that looks great and works so well.

Cheapest KitchenAid Professional 5 Plus Series

I’ve owned this machine for years, using mostly for kneading bread. Since most of my breads are stiff sourdoughs weighing 40 to 70 ounces, every batch is a strain on this mixer. Being in a wheelchair, I don’t have much choice.
A few years ago it ground to a halt - back for service. Again yesterday. Sigh.
